Black Friday 2021: Shopping Forecast

With Black Friday just a month away, we thought it was timely to send out a reminder to get plans ready to make it a success. It is the busiest shopping day of the year. We are keeping a close eye on the stats for the past few years to predict the behavior of a Black Friday shopper this year. Here are our recommendations for Black Friday to make your sales and revenue a success in 2021 based on the previous year stats.

Fact

In 2020, Thanksgiving weekend (Turkey Day through Cyber Monday) drew 186.4 million U.S. shoppers.

2021 Forecast

Based on these numbers alone, it is easy to predict that this year online shopping will be huge as well. It is expected that the Black Friday sales trend will grow to 61% in 2021.

Recommendation

Is your pro shop online? Are the Black Friday deals/ discount percentages already visible on the website or the pro shop page? If not, you might lose out on a big chunk of the Black Friday 2021 revenue. You still have time to work on your website and add the e-commerce factor to it.  Memberships, Gift Cards, Rounds/Cart Packages, and all kinds of merchandise offers are all great online shopping items.

2.9 billion worth of Black Friday sales happened through mobile phones.

2021 Forecast

In 2019 67% of the world’s population has a cell phone but as of October 2021, about 90% of world’s population own a cell phone. The 23% difference will be visible in the 2021 Black Friday sales as well.  The percentage of shoppers over the age of 65 making purchases on their mobile device has also skyrocketed in the last 24 months.  Every age demographic is now actively making mobile purchases.

Recommendation

Is your website optimized? Does it fit to screen of a cell phone or a tablet? If not then you have enough time to optimize it to fit the other screens other than just a desktop. Make sure you are reviewing your website on a desktop and also a mobile device to make sure it is accurately loading, looks properly designed, and is user friendly in navigation and selection of ecommerce items.

In 2020 more than 78% of the shoppers were millennials and Gen Z.

2021 Forecast

Millennials are always looking for discounts and deals to fulfil their holiday needs. The NGF count showed 24.8 million golfers in the U.S. in 2020, an increase of 500,000 and 2% over 2019. This also coincides with the extremely large number of new and reactivated golfers (golfers that didn’t play a round in 2019) that have renewed interest in the sport.  There are a lot of millennials looking for lessons, memberships and equipment to meet their golfing needs.

Recommendation

Millennials like discounted packages which includes family inclusive deals on food and the game of golf. Around 44% of millennials have kids or are married and have partners. They are looking for places which can involve their family, have activities for kids or even their partners. Add such packages on your Black Friday 2021 discount lists and many millennials will invest in them.
